Pirate Costume Review

Halloween isn't just for kids. We adults love to dress up and go to parties, etc. Of course it's past our Trick or Treat time, but still... why should the kids have all the fun. I was very pleased to be given the opportunity to review a costume from Plus Size Costumes. They have a wide selection of costumes from 60's to 80's, TV Characters, Renaissance and everything in between. And it's not just for us ladies... they have men's costumes too.

When they offered to send me a costume to review, I had a very hard time making a final decision. I finally decided on the Buccaneer Beauty Pirate Costume:
Pirate Costume
From their website:
This ornate pirate costume is perfect for the woman who wants to stand out in a crowd in a historical costume with authentic pieces fit for the queen of the most powerful pirate ship out on the high seas. The Buccaneer Beauty Adult Plus Costume features a sexy red and black outfit with lots of pretty pirate details that combine to create a very unique costume. The buccaneer beauty costume has a long sleeve sheer red peasant blouse with billowy sleeves and black ruffled trim around the neck and sleeves. Buccaneer costumes have a black jagged hem skirt and a red and black striped waist sash with a black waist corset with criss cross lacing in the front. Halloween costumes look best paired with a fancy hat or head scarf and can be enhanced by adding on sexy black boots, fabulous jewels or skull jewelry, and a shiny cutlass sword.

•Plus (Fits 18-22).
•Includes: Headscarf, top, corset, belt and skirt
•Jewelry, hat and boots not included

My thoughts:
I enjoy a festive costume party, and there is an annual one hosted by some great friends that we try not to miss. It's the event of the year!  My husband and I enjoy dressing up and have had some interesting costumes in the past; hippies, bikers, "A Person of Walmart" etc.

I like to have a lot of options and have a few in my closet, however I'm always looking for something new.  Of course, I don’t want to break the bank spending money on these costumes. This particular pirate costume sells for $39.99, it comes with a skirt, corset, top and head wrap.

The top is very nice bright red with ruffle trip along the neckline and the cuffs. The waist is elastic and quite comfortable. The detail in the lacework on the neck and the cuffs were very nice. It adds a nice touch without going overboard (pun not intended, but oh well). I like the sheer sleeves too. I tend to get quite warm in a room full of costumed folks and this would help me stay cool. Love it.

The double layer of lace at the cuff
The skirt also had an elastic waist that fit snug but without digging in. Nothing is worse then to be dressed up at a party and constantly tugging at your costume. It has a sash in the front that you can tie or let loose... the choice is yours.
The costume is nicely made, good quality and the stitching is solid.  I’ve bought costumes in the past that were in this price range and they were not nearly this well made. The outfit says it's for plus size 18-20, however as with all costumes I've purchased in the past, it runs small.  I normally wear a 14 and this fit as if it were a 14.

So head on over to Plus Size Costume Supercenter and find your Halloween costume. There is such a variety I know you'll have just as difficult a time as I did deciding on one.

I'm so ready for this years party now! And I have the best accessory to go with this costume; my parrot Bongo. I wonder if I can find a little head scarf for him?  Hmmmmmm
