Emmy Rossum CD Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review the CD "Sentimental Journey" by Emmy Rossum. On Sentimental Journey, the multi-talented actress and singer brings her stellar voice to songs popularized by some of the most beloved artists of the last century.

Each song corresponds with a certain month of the year As Emmy was quoted recently - "Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month," Emmy explained. "Some songs were obvious fits, like Summer Wind for June, and Pretty Paper for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months."

Here is a sneak preview for your listening pleasure:

My Thoughts
I do not know a lot about Emmy Rossum, so I looked at her bio on IMDB. For those of you who are not familiar with her, she currently stars in "Shameless" on Showtime. I don't have cable or a satellite dish, so I haven't watched the program, however I do remember her from the 2004 movie "The Day After Tomorrow."  I had no idea she could sing! And sing she does. This CD shows her passionate, soulful side. She puts her all into these songs like she has sung them for years and they have become a part of her.

She does a nice rendition "Summer Wind" which is a classic Frank Sinatra song that I've been listening to since I was a little kid. I think she did a great job bringing it to life in her own style and hit the notes as they were meant to be.  She does this song justice!!

As I was listening to this, I thought about how this album would be the perfect music for a nice small elegant dinner party or an intimate date night. It has that romantic side to it that any one can appreciate.

Emmy will be a guest on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on February 6th and will be performing a track from Sentimental Journey on the CBS Early Show on February 9th so tune in and see her in action!
