These won tons are just in time for the March Madness basketball playoffs. They're not the standard chips and dip or buffalo wings you traditionally see at a sports party. This appetizer will be a pleasant surprise for your guests while you watch your favorite college team head to the final four.
Crab Won Tons, Serves 8
Ingredients:
1 can of lump crab meat, drained
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/4 of a medium yellow onion, finely chopped
1/2 of a 6 oz container of low fat cream cheese, softened
16 won ton wrappers
salt and pepper to taste
Drain crab meat and add to a small saucepan with the garlic and onion. Saute until heated through and garlic is fragrant. Drain any excess water.
In a small bowl, mix together the crab and the cream cheese. Salt and pepper to taste.
Take a dollop of the cream cheese mix and place it in the center of the won ton wrapper.
Fold over until they form little triangles. Press the edges together to seal the won ton shut.Heat olive oil in a large saucepan, using enough to almost cover the won ton. Cook 3-4 won tons at a time in the oil until golden brown, flipping once. You want to make sure the won tons have room to move around and not stick to each other so be careful not to crowd the pan. Be sure to keep a close eye on them as they cook quickly and you can easily over cook the edges as the picture below shows.
Be careful not to over cook them or they'll look like this. |
This is how they should look |
