Beanfields Review and Giveaway!

My husband will tell you that I've never met a chip I didn't like (almost never). It's my go-to snack, the thing I crave more then anything, except maybe chunky peanut butter.  So imagine the happy dance I did when I had the opportunity to review Beanfields Chips new flavor, Nacho.  I prefer a chip where I can taste the chip and not the additives and fat, so I usually get my snack food at Sunflower or Whole Foods. I like a "healthy" chip and when I heard these were also vegan, I was intrigued.

From their website:
Welcome to Beanfields where creating quite possibly the world’s tastiest chips was just the beginning…introducing the NEW (vegan) Nacho chips! Made from nutritious beans and rice, without corn or any of the FDA’s top eight ingredients that trigger food allergies, including dairy! Winner of this years  “Best of Show” award at the 2012 Natural Products Expo West, VegNews magazine had this to say: “We are obsessed (no, really) with Beanfields’ new Nacho Bean and Rice Chips. The vegan answer to Doritos!”

Beanfields Bean and Rice Chips are great tasting snacks that are healthier for you:
  • Complete Protein: 4 grams in every serving, as much as a 4 oz. glass of milk.
  • Fiber: 4 grams in every serving, the same as a ½ cup serving of raisin bran. And you get both soluble and insoluble fiber, which aids digestion. The fiber also helps you feel fuller longer.
  • Allergen Specific: Beanfields is free of every one of the FDA's eight most common ingredients that trigger food allergies.
  • Complex Carbohydrates provide long lasting energy.
  • Minerals our bodies need, including potassium and magnesium.
  • Half the saturated fat and one third less sodium than most corn tortilla chips.
More information on each flavor's nutrition can be found on their The Nutritional Information page.

My Thoughts:
The folks at Beanfields were generous to send me a variety of chips, not just the Nacho. Below is what I received (minus the one small bag of Nacho I ate before I took the picture).
Beanfields Nacho Bean and Rice Chips are light and "crispalicous."  The texture is somewhat nutty and they are full of flavor. They have a nice cheesy taste without it being overpowering. I am a huge fan of cheese snacks; chips, crackers, cheeseball....you name it. These light and deliciously crunchy chips satisfied my cheesy taste buds.

The Unsalted Beanfields variety allowed the natural flavors to shine through. They are a nice light healthy snack that is not salty at all. This chip would satisfy those members of your family that prefer less salty snacks.

The Pico chip was flavorful without burning my mouth like some "pico" chips. The texture was light and crispy like the others and it even looks better for you. Check out this picture of a pico chip. See the grainy texture?
The Sea Salt Bean and Chips were very pleasing to my taste buds. Lightly salted, not overdone. They satisfied my salt craving perfectly. I have not yet tried the pepper ones.

Since chips are a favorite, I have a variety of salsas and dips I have made. What to have with Beanfields? Something healthy that would not take away from the chip. I decided to made my famous corn and black bean salsa!
16 oz fresh corn on the cob (or a can of corn)
1 can of black beans rinsed
3 roma tomatoes chopped
1/2 red onion, chopped
1/2 fresh jalapeno pepper finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
Juice from 2 fresh limes
Whole bunch of chopped fresh cilantro
A dash of your favorite hot sauce (I use Chalula).

Mix, cover and refridgerate for about 2 hours to blend the flavors. This is a very chunky salsa for a light chip, so I just spooned it onto the chip rather then dipping it. I think the salsa went best with the unsalted chips. They were a perfect compliment to each other.

Beanfields Bean and Rice Chips are available in five flavors:

New! Nacho
•Naturally Unsalted
•Sea Salt
•Sea Salt and Pepper
•Pico de Gallo

They are available in two sizes, 6 oz ($2.99-$3.99) and 1.5 oz ($1.19-$1.49) Beanfields chips are perfect for any occasion.
