#CrockPotMixes Review and Pot Roast Recipe

It's that time of year when the temperatures dip into the 30's or 40's and you crave some yummy soups, stews and other comfort foods. It's when I bust out my slow cooker a lot more often then during the summer months. If you love to cook like I do, the slow cooker is an essential kitchen appliance. It is one of my favorites in my "toy cupboard."

It's December 1st and I live in Utah so you can imagine how chilly it's getting. Even though the snow is not falling in the valley yet, the wind was howling all day today and the air is definitely crisp. It was the perfect day for a fine pot roast with potatoes and veggies. YUM.

I was sent the new Crock-Pot Seasoning Mixes by Smile360 for a review. This is a new product on the market and it comes in three flavors:
  • Savory Pot Roast
  • Hearty Beef Stew
  • BBQ Pulled Pork
Each packet makes the recipe simple. You just add your meat, vegetables (for the stew and roast), or a few ingredients (for the BBQ pulled pork), place your items in the crock pot and relax. Each meal will cook in 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. Easy peasy and a quick clean up to boot.

Pot Roast Ingredients

1 -  2.5 pound rib roast
4 medium to large red potatoes
4 large carrots, peeled
half of a medium red onion
4 cloves of garlic
1 packet of Crock Pot Savory Pot Roast Seasoning

I seasoned the roast first with some course sea salt on both sides and then sliced two of the garlic cloves. I cut little slits into the roast and inserted the slices into the slits. My mom used to do that when she made her pot roast and it always gave it a yummy flavor. Plus, if anyone has read this blog long enough, you know how much we love garlic. Place the roast in the slow cooker.

I then chopped the potatoes into 6 chunks each, the carrots into inch long logs (after peeling them of course) and the onion into half dollar sized pieces. I placed the remaining garlic and the veggies on and around the roast into the slow cooker.
I mixed the seasoning with 1 cup of water until blended and poured it over my roast and veggies.
I set the slow cooker to high and sat back for the next four hours watching football and enjoying the aroma of my roast and veggies. My husband had to eat a cupcake to hold him over since he was getting so hungry.
And the wait was worth it..
The meat was so tender you can cut it with a butter knife and it sliced easily without falling apart.

And the flavor was rich, mouthwatering and not at all salty. Some seasoning mixes are so full of salt, but this was not. The veggies were flavorful and not mushy and my husband couldn't get enough of them. I served it with rice and used the juices as a gravy. I liked how the water, the mix and the meat juices thickened up into a nice gravy.

Was this a success? YOU BET!!! I highly recommend this seasoning to my readers.

You can find Crock-Pot Seasoning Mixes at most retailers nationwide for approximately $1.99.
